Questions

What is the weather like in Scotland?

September is beautiful in Scotland. The weather can be cooler at night and warmer during the days, therefore wearing layers is always a good idea. If you are coming from MN, think of packing light layers like you would going north for a 'cabin' weekend. It's always a good idea to bring a light rain coat when traveling anywhere in the UK.

What should I wear to the wedding?

Be ready for mud and ceilidh dancing (lol Scotland). For those wearing heeled shoes, you may feel a bit precarious on stilettos and prefer a blockier heel. Cèilidh dancing involves a lot of spinning and jumping, so (if you're participating) I would keep that in mind when choosing an outfit. It's up to you, obviously, but I always feel better in a dress with a longer hem for a cèilidh.

How will I get to Murthly Estate and back?

We have a bus for you! Please make your way to the Dunkeld House Hotel car park to board a coach bus at 11:30am. Buses will depart at 11:45am to the Murthly Estate.

Okay, how will I get to the reception?

Bus again! All buses will leave the Murthly Estate after the ceremonies and bring you back to the Dunkeld House Hotel for drinks, dinner and dancing!

Do I have to go on the bus?

Absolutely not. Feel free to drive if you'd prefer! Parking may be a challenge, but feel free.

What's a Cèilidh?

Pronounced /cay-lee/. There will be a Scottish folk band playing traditional Scottish tunes, so be ready to dance. A caller (one of the band) will "call" out the moves and explain how to do all the dance moves. For the American crowd, it's a bit like a square dance.

How long is the ceremony?

The wedding ceremony typically is 30-40 minutes followed by a Celtic ceremony in the forest.

What do I do with my kids?

We will have someone babysitting children, so please do bring the whole family!
